This water heater was purchased to get us hot water "quickly" instead of a $3500 recirculating system (our plumber quoted us). It arrived DOA (Dead On Arrival). I did not learn it was DOA until the very end of the install (the directions are specific, don't apply electricity to the heating element until you have filled the tank with water). Hooking it up was a bit problematic. I had to purchase about $55 worth of hoses, tees, nipples, etc. to hook it up. Of course, you are laying on your back under the sink and disposal cabinet the entire time. When finally plumbed, I turned on the water, the tank filled and I put the dial on ECO mode (supposedly about 131 degrees which is plenty hot for mixing with cold water to do dishes). No light comes on, no water heats, nothing. I tried Thermoflow's suggested diagnosis. It said to push the reset button on the back of the unit. There was a sticker that read RESET but there was nothing near where it was located. So, I go on their website and go to support. It's an empty page (GRRRR). So, I call their support line (open 8-5 Colorado time). The first young man I talked to told me to pull the RESET sticker off to see if the reset button was under it. No joy, it wasn't there. Please take a picture of the back of the unit and send it to us; we'll send it to engineering and get you an answer in another 24 hours. I lost my temper, hung up and cooled down. I was so angry this young support person did not know where the reset button was. I called support back, got someone else on the line and we figured out where the button was (on the back but you need a ballpoint pen point to push it in. Because it was plumbed in, it was difficult to get to but manageable. Still no light or hot water. Back into the box and returned it to Amazon. This is a 1 star review because it was DOA and support initially was terrible. I packed it back up and am awaiting UPS pickup. I did however order another one (same unit). I will update this review if that one works as planned. If it doesn't, No update will occur. I don't like to flame a manufacturer but their website was only about selling water heaters and nothing about product support. FUBAR!UPDATE October 1, 2019: I've raised my original 1 star review to 4 stars. I ordered a replacement and it arrived within the promised 2 days. The refund for the original was received within 1 day of pickup by UPS. Amazon is amazingly efficient AND effective. The new install went quickly and I learned that the unit has a voltage protection feature built in. If more than one appliance is plugged into the same receptacle, the unit senses it and will not power on. Easy to correct that problem. Water was scalding hot within 20 minutes. The "instant hot water" is now available. The swivel fitting leaks and has to be replacedUPDATE 8/3/2019I contacted Thermoflow at the contact information they provided in their comment. While all that was really needed was a new thermostat for the heater, they did send out a complete replacement.I changed the water heater out this morning and the heater is now working properly. Thus the change from a 1 star rating to a 4 star rating.I would have given 5 stars if the fittings included made sense from a plumbing standpoint here in the US, but they don't. They would have been better off using true 3/8" pipe threads coming out of the water heater, but I believe they are something other than 3/8" pipe thread, possibly 3/8" straight threads because you need to use a rubber gasket on the included adapter. And the description says it's a 1/2" pipe connection, but that's not true without using the provided adapter fitting.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I purchased this in February and haven't had time to install it until now.First, the 3/8" pipe connection on the unit itself are not standard pipe threads. This makes it more difficult to install if you need to make some odd connections.Second after install no matter where I set the temperature control, even on the frost protection setting, the unit does not turn off resulting in scalding hot water coming out of the faucet.I wish I had time to install it back in February. I would have returned it to Amazon. But alas, that time has passed and I'll have to look for a different hot water heater.I wound up needing a bunch of hoses and fittings to get it into place. My setup was 2 hots and 1 cold, so I had to cap the 2 hots and run the cold through a T to the heater and the faucet. Out of the heater I then had to the faucet and the dishwasher. All of this was made more difficult by the Odd sized fitting on the heater with poor information prior to receiving the unit.Once I got it setup, the #1 thing to know is that if you turn it up, the water is scorching HOT. So my next job will be to mix the heater out with cold. And by doing this I'll double the 'capacity' of the tank.So happy to always have hot water at the kitchen sink!I have a complaint that I don’t think was mentioned in any other review. And that is: the temperature thermostat does not seem to be active enough to keep the water temperature reasonably consistent.I have the temperature knob set at about the 2 o’clock position which apparently is 120 degrees because the element turns off at 120 which is fine. But it doesn’t light up and heat again until the water temperature in the tank drops well below 90 degrees. That is a 30 degree water temp range! That is not nearly consistent enough in my opinion.Every morning when I get up, the water temperature is tepid, slightly below 90 degrees. I’ve measured it with a thermometer. I’ll wash my face with this luke warm water and you’d think the element would definitely light up then with colder water entering the tank but even then it doesn’t. Thirty seconds later when I’m already done, the indicator light lights up showing the element is finally heating. Within 5 minutes the water temp is at 120 which is a pretty fast recovery, I’ll admit. But I say the 30 degree range between off and on, no matter where you set the knob is not comfortable enough and not acceptable. This product looked fine but in Canada ok appliances in this category require a CSA approved decal and the pressure relief valve supplied with this product doesn’t qualify as it will continuously fail ... disappointed the lack of CSA certification is not listed in the specifications or stated in the listing .. I’m now completely suspect if any of this type of appliance you list ... not happyAfter several weeks of use, I’m delighted. Works perfectly in a tiny house situation. I recommend the 4 gallon version as it provides adequate hot water for a shower. I guess the smaller version would run out too quickly for me. It’s quiet, neat and well made. Instalation was no problem, just had to buy flexible hoses. Water temperature is controllable and reheats quickly. Very pleased so far. This little unit warms the water on our hot after on demand system which we used to get cold water sandwiches while showering. It takes little space, and is efficient at a reasonable price. If we can have access to that part it would be great !Send me a new electric element replacement, I would pay for it !!!Excellent product but unfortunately the inlet valve /pressure relief. If a replacement could be sent that would be great. My husband is a plumber and this worked great for his clients needs.
